All About KnotBadBritt

How long have you been crocheting?

6 years

When did you start your business or hobby?

I started my business a year ago.

Why did you start?
I was asked to design a wrap for my local yarn store. It was the perfect push to dive into designing after pattern testing for so many years.

What was your most memorable success?

Creating the SisNotTwins Project with Sonna of SunDaughterKnits has
been a huge success. We design in tandem and provide a pattern worked up in crochet, by me, and knit, by her. I am not a knitter so I learned a lot through this process. We hope to continue to put on a design each quarter.

What was your most memorable challenge?

Being asked to design the Jimmy Beans Shawl Club this year was quite the honor. I was not as established of a designer and considered it a huge challenge. I chose each color, 12 in total, and designed a shawl that could keep the interest of both beginner and intermediate crocheters.

How did or are you overcoming this challenge?

I languished over this design. I wanted to be sure that the color palette was appealing and approachable. In the end, I chose lesser known stitches to ensure that it was interesting. This club is on going and so far there haven’t been any complaints.

What’s next for KnotBadBritt?

Right now my business is focusing on building the Makers of Color Collective. This is a portion of my website that houses a directory of Makers of Color. There you will find, pattern testers, crochet designers, knit designers, notion makers, spinners & indie yarn dyers. I’m hoping to make THE place to go to support makers of color. The site is free. All links go directly to the maker you select, cutting out and
third party so you can support them the most direct way possible. There are currently over 100 listing on the page and it grows more and more each day. Check it out at https://www.knotbadbritt.com/makers-of-color-

The Future for KnotBadBritt

What’s your latest project?

The KBB Shawl! It’s is a kite shaped shawl that I am releasing on my birthday! 5/18

Where did the inspiration come from for this project?

I’ve challenged myself to design lesser known shapes for shawls this year. When I discovered this shape I was thrilled. It works up quickly, even for a fingering weight
shawl and the end decreases aggressively which is really satisfying.

Have there been any challenges with this project?

It was difficult trying to figure out the construction. I’ve never made a shawl this shape before and it is easier than I expected. I did a TON of research on how to get the shape *just* right.

Will this be free or paid?

 Paid

Where can we find this project when it’s finished?

It will be available on my website and Ravelry.

When will it be finished?

It releases 5/18/2021
