Let's give a warm welcome to Kasey owner of TheSkeiniac!

All About Kasey

Do you have a job outside of this?

I do! I am an investigator/lawyer by day.

What’s your dream vacation spot?

As someone who grew up in Southern California, I am always looking for colder weather. I love vacationing in the mountains, Alaska, … anywhere that I can get a
break from the heat.

What’s your favorite color(s)?

My favorite color is olive green, but in my makes I tend to learn toward
neutrals: grays, creams, black, and other subtle tones.

What’s your favorite food/meal?

Mexican food for sure!

What’s your least favorite food/meal?

I was just talking to some makers about this…. I can’t stand eggs! Unless they are scrambled well done, keep them away from me.

Do you have a favorite movie or TV show?

My all-time favorite shows are One Tree Hill and
Parenthood. As far as current shows go, I am a sucker for first responder and medical network dramas: all of the Chicagos (PD, Fire, Med), Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, The Resident, … heck, I even love 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Lonestar, as cheesy as they are. I am about to re-watch The Handmaid’s Tale too, in advance of the new season coming out this month.

What’s a quote that you live by?

I’ve never been much of a quotes person, but I recently bought a bracelet with the phrase “Positive Mind, Positive Vibes, Positive Life.” I am trying to live by that
mindset.

Do you have other hobbies?

I have a Peloton and have gotten pretty into indoor cycling, though I admittedly go through waves with that. Between work and yarn time, I have not really spent much time on other hobbies.

What’s 1 (or more) weird/strange fact(s) about you?

All of my pets are named after teenage drama
TV characters.

If you had a theme song, WHAT would it be?

Vienna – Billy Joel. This song always reminds me to slow down and appreciate the moment. I used to listen to this song regularly in high school, college, and
law school to calm myself down when I would get stressed out.

What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve done in your life?

I am NOT spontaneous, except when it comes to yarn purchases, haha. Then I am very spontaneous (and reckless).

Do you have a favorite holiday?

Christmas, because it reminds me of my mom.

Do you have a favorite season?

Winter! As I mentioned above, I love being cold and escaping hot weather.

What inspires or motivates you?

In the last two years, as I have gotten to know people in this fiber community, I have become incredibly inspired by and motivated by some of my closest fiber friends. I’ve met some really great people who not only inspire me creatively, but who also align with values
that are important to me and continuously help me do and be better in my everyday life.

If you could do one thing for the world (people or environment), what would it be?

There is so much room for improvement in so many aspects of our society, but I would start with eliminating white supremacy and systemic racism and forcing everyone to truly and genuinely value the lives and
livelihood of others.

All About TheSkeiniac

How long have you been  crocheting and pattern testing?

I have been crocheting
since approximately 2014, knitting since 2018, and Tunisian crocheting and pattern testing since 2019.

When did you start TheSkeiniac?

I started my fiber-focused Instagram account in 2019
and started my pattern testing blog in August 2020.

Why did you start?

I switched jobs in 2018 and had more time for crocheting/knitting. As I started to make it a daily ritual, I decided I needed to stop bothering my friends and family on my personal account. So, I started my yarn Instagram, discovered pattern testing, and the rest is history!

What’s your favorite thing you’ve made?

My favorite things to make are tank tops and shawls. Two of my favorites so far are the Despite Shawl by @detroitknots (Tunisian crochet) and the Escalante
Tank by @hannahsingleton (knit).

What’s a piece of advice for someone just starting out in your field?

Don’t be afraid to try something outside of your comfort zone. If you’ve never knit a sweater or crocheted a top, dive right in! You’ll be surprised how much you’re capable of once you give it a shot.

What was your most memorable success?

The blog has been a surprising and rewarding success. I never anticipating being a blogger, but I’ve loved watching it develop into a resource utilized and
appreciated by so many in the fiber community.

What was your most memorable challenge?

The blog was probably also my biggest challenge!
Starting that up and having the courage to put myself out there with it took time, but I am so glad I
gave it a shot.

How did or are you overcoming this challenge?
What’s next for your business (the future)? For now, more blog posts and pattern testing for me!
Designing may be in my future someday, but I am not rushing it. What is meant to be, will be.

The Future for TheSkeiniac

What’s your latest project?

I am currently working on the Endless Seasons Shawl Lite by @thefrostedstitch and the Tunisian Summer Peplum top by @handmadebyroeska. Once I finish these, I will be turning to the Captiva Crop which is @murphymadecrochet’s first design ever! So
excited for her! All three of these are pattern tests.

Have there been any challenges with this project?

The Tunisian peplum will be my first time working
Tunisian crochet in the round. I am excited to learn that new skill! One of the things I love about
pattern testing is being able to take on projects that expand my skills and force me to become a better
maker.

When will it be finished?

All three of these should be finished by end of April/early May so follow along with those designers for the pattern releases shortly after that!

Go and give Kasey some LOVE! Like, share, or follow along on her journey through pattern testing. Plus, she has a blog too! Check it out!
