Let's give a warm welcome to

Light Touch Pullover by Natasha Robarge

When did WeCrochet start?

WeCrochet as a brand started in the fall of 2019. We’re the sister brand of Knit Picks, a knitting-focused yarn company, which started in 2002.

Who started WeCrochet?

The brand was started as an outgrowth of Knit Picks, so a lot of people in the company had a hand in starting the brand. The founding members of the WeCrochet team are: Sara Dudek (Brand Director), me—Heather Mann (Marketing Coordinator), and Camden Hill (Graphic Designer).

Why did WeCrochet start?

We started because we think the crochet community needed their own brand. Wewanted to have a place that was dedicated to all things crochet: yarn, hooks, patterns, tools, a podcast, a magazine, and more. Our brand is for Crocheters, by Crocheters.

Where are you located?

Our home office is in Vancouver, Washington (in the Portland, Oregon metro area), and our warehouse is in Ohio.

Where did the inspiration for the name come from?

We brainstormed a lot of different options, but it came down to wanting to focus on the community of Crocheters, and be inclusive, so we decided that WeCrochet was the perfect name to do that.

What does WeCrochet offer?

We have a ton of different yarn lines, in all weights and lots of different fibers (from acrylic to cotton to wool to alpaca to linen and more!), we have crochet hooks of all types, we have free patterns and crochet designers can also sell their patterns on our site, we have cool tools and goodies designed for Crocheters (like enamel pins, tote bags, project bags, and more), we publish a magazine 4 times a year, and we have a podcast (the WeCrochet Podcast).

Look at how beautiful the magazine's are!

Who makes up the WeCrochet team?

Our in-office team is pretty small. The core group is just four of us (Sara, Heather, Camden, and Zoey), with a couple of other important people who work with all the brands in our company (like Producer Sarah, our podcast and video producer, Regan our photographer, Kate our office manager, and of course, the whole team in the shipping warehouse, customer service, IT, etc.) It takes a village to make this work!

Can anyone become involved with WeCrochet?

We work with a lot of freelancers who are crochet designers, testers, tech editors, and influencers to help us design our patterns, make the samples, edit the patterns, and work with our yarn and share it on social media. If you’d like to find out more about that, you can visit: https://www.crochet.com/support/work-with-us/designers or email us at social@wecrochet.com.

How do you give back to the community?

Giving back to the community is important to us, so we work with a nonprofit, Warm Up America, to give donations, organize donation drives, and help share their messages. We also donate yarn support to organizations and individuals who need it. We cover crochet-related organizations in our magazine and on our podcast, and we try to use our social media platforms to share messages that are community focused. We just started the brand last year, but we have goals to continue to give back even more.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Since we are so new, we still feel like just starting the brand was a huge accomplishment. Every time one of our magazine issues (or podcast episodes) is published, it feels like a huge accomplishment.

What is WeCrochet's biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge is having a small team and an ambitious number of projects.

Does WeCrochet have a mascot?

Our unofficial mascot is Sparkles the Crocheting Unicorn. You can get Sparkles in GIF form if you type “WeCrochet” into a GIF search, or you can get an enamel pin, a tote bag, or even an amigurumi crochet stuffie pattern featuring Sparkles. You can see examples of a lot of these in the Ultimate Unicorn Kit: https://www.crochet.com/the-ultimate-unicorn-kit-fairy-tale-rainbow/p/84663
