Happy Thursday, Friends!!

I can’t believe it’s been a week since my last Thursday Threads post. These days, time seems to be slipping away faster and faster. This Thursday Threads is a lead up to our next Maker Spotlight. On Monday, I’m excited to announce that our Maker is actually a Company! WeCrochet was gracious enough to respond to my email about featuring different makers and yarn companies. And I *may* have a few other companies lined up too.

So, in honor of WeCrochet, I’m going to give you my full review of Brava Worsted Weight Yarn!

Remember, with Thursday Threads, you’ll get my honest opinion about each yarn plus all these topics will be addressed:

The Details (all the information about the yarn)

The Texture (How does this yarn feel? Is it scratchy, soft, smooth)

What’s it Cost (Is it worth the cost? Does it hold up?)

Show Me the Swatches (I’ll crochet and knit up some swatches based on the recommendations on the label and see if they are true)

Patterns (What can I make with this yarn? I will list some patterns that use the yarn)

Let's Meet: Brava Worsted Yarn

The Details

Fiber Type: 100% premium acrylic

The Texture

Brava Worsted is a new yarn for me. I’ve only had it in my stash for a little over a month. I saw multiple makers using it on Instagram and decided to try some out myself. I ordered multiple colors and weights. I found the Worsted to be a great match for my String of Pearls crochet succulents.

I absolutely love the feel of Brava. It’s made of premium acrylic and is soft to the touch. That makes it hypoallergenic and perfect for every project. After crocheting it up for a few rounds, the yarn still feels soft and gentle on the skin. I’d recommend this yarn for baby items, amigurumi pieces, or blankets. Brava also comes in different weights: Sport, Bulky, extra large and small minis.

What's it cost?

Brava Worsted Yarn is available on WeCrochet‘s website (crochet.com). The cost is $2.49 per skein of 218 yards. That’s roughly $0.011 per yard. You can crochet and knit one full adult beanie per skein of Brava yarn. The cheap price doesn’t reflect on the quality of this yarn. The yarn is durable and a great pick for the price.

I have found some skeins available on Amazon (Link). These look to be 10 skeins of the same color in a pack. Amazon has Knit Picks (same company) listed as the seller. Personally, I would just order the yarn directly from WeCrochet. They are very good about keeping you informed when yarn is out of stock and when it will be back in stock.

Show me the swatches!

I decided to do 2 swatches: one using an I hook (5.5mm) and one using a K hook (6.5mm). Both of which are recommended on the label. Neither of my hooks were able to meet gauge.

With the I hook (5.5mm), my swatch was 3″x3″. With the K hook (5.5mm), my swatch was 3.5″x4″. I was close with the K hook and would probably continue using it but I would crochet a bit more loosely.

I am unable to do a knitting swatch, as I currently don’t own the recommended needles. Guess that’s a good reason to go and buy some, huh?

Remember to always check your gauge before starting a project using what the author suggests. And give your gauge a check during the project or whenever you set it down for a while.
