Maybe “The Bones” or “Happy.” I really like happy and positive songs!

I love Summer and Fall, but Spring and winter have their benefits.

Honestly just knowing I’ll feel good when I’m done motivates me to do everything I do.

If you could do one thing for the world (people or environment), what would it be?

Find the cure for cancer. I know I will.

Anything else?

I’m actually only 13 and started my business during the quarantine after only knowing how to knit for 3 or 4 months. I have a turtle named Franklin. I got him in 2013 and he’s now 22 or 23 years old! Pretty cool, right?

Also, if you want to reach out, please do! I LOVE getting to know my customers and fellow knitters! I’m quite shy in real life so I’m not too good at reaching out myself, so if you have any business inquiries or would like to place a custom order on my Etsy, please reach out!

All About YarnyAndLaurel

How long have you been knitting?

5 months

When did you start your YarnyAndLaurel?

I started knitting right before quarantine and started my business in July 2020. Fun fact: My online school was super easy and boring so on Google Meets is when I planned my business and knitted. (I was a good student and finished all assignments on time, don’t worry!)

Why did you start?

I just really loved knitting and thought that people would love my scarves, which were the first thing I ever knit, because of how soft and luscious they were. I also thought, “why not” because I might as well get paid for my time.

What’s your favorite thing you’ve made?

Probably my first ever knitting project, a scarf for my mom. It was SO CROOKED at first but towards the end it actually looked great.

I also test knitted a beanie (the Susitna beanie, which I sell as “the braided beanie”), and I kept the test knit for myself, it’s olive with a brown Pom Pom and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

What’s a piece of advice for someone just starting out in your field?

Just have fun with it. I’m writing this in July only 10 days after opening my Etsy with 8 sales. Maybe now I’ll be viral or selling well. Or maybe not. As my dad always says, “Do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!”

Does your company have a mascot?

I guess you could say my theme/mascot is plants, maybe? My logo is a tree with yarn as the leaves, and I theme my packaging with cacti. So plants and greens are my theme/mascot I would say.

What was your most memorable success?

As of July 2020, my most memorable success would be my first etsy sale!

What was your most memorable challenge?

Also as of July 2020, my most memorable challenge would definitely be struggling to get sales on Etsy.

How did or are you overcoming this challenge?

I’m trying to add new listings almost daily, improve my SEO, and get better photos!

What’s next for YarnyAndLaurel?

As of July 2020, I am hoping to get my scrunchies and headbands in a local salon so they can sell them for me. I’m also planning to take part in two craft shows (one of which will have already happened by the time followers are reading) if everything is safe by then!

The Future for YarnyAndLaurel

What’s your latest project?

A “braided beanie”

Where did the inspiration come from for this project?

I use the susitna beanie pattern by curious conundrums that I tested and LOVED the look of, so I decided to sell my finished products!

Where can we find this project when it’s finished?

 Etsy

When will it be finished?

Probably in a few days and you can find it on my Etsy yarnyandlaurel.etsy.com then 🙂
